A Worthy Purpose for an Artist as a Teacher?
For cross-curricular integration of Algebra 1 and Art, my first thoughts were in reference of one the greatest minds in history, and an Artist no less, of the Renaissance Period; the original "Renaissance Man" himself, Leonardo da Vinci. Known for many avant-guard ideas, his most notable work was in the realm of Discovery and Imagination, particularly the numerous sketches and plans he developed throughout his life of inventions and ideas that would not come into existence, neither by his own hands, nor anyone else's for many years to come. Below, I have included a Presentation from Ted Talk that is a great illustration of Education as it has related to Art in the past, that presents a valid argument for change; by Sir Ken Robinson, who makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9CE55wbt --C.
